One of my favorite parts about being a Realtor isn’t just helping people find their dream home—it’s getting to explore all the amazing communities that make Minnesota such a wonderful place to live.
With more than 11,000 lakes, Minnesota offers endless opportunities to get outside, enjoy nature, and create lasting memories. I recently had the chance to spend some time at Twin Lakes Park in Nowthen, Minnesota, and it turned out to be a peaceful little gem that deserves a visit.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear why so many families enjoy spending time here. The park features a nice sandy beach with a designated swimming area that is clean and inviting. While the lake does have plenty of weeds and lily pads in some areas, they stay mostly outside the swimming area, making it a great place to cool off on a warm summer day.
Twin Lakes may be smaller than some of Minnesota’s larger lakes, but don’t let its size fool you. There is still plenty of room for boating, tubing, water skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon on the water or a little adventure, there’s something here for everyone.
One of the highlights of our visit was seeing a mother Common Loon and her baby swimming across the lake. The Common Loon is Minnesota’s official state bird and is known for its beautiful, haunting calls that echo across northern lakes. Baby loons often ride on their parents’ backs during their first few weeks of life, making it a truly special sight for anyone lucky enough to witness it.
As if that wasn’t enough, we also spotted a bald eagle soaring overhead. Seeing both of these incredible birds in one visit was a wonderful reminder of just how much wildlife calls Minnesota home.
Beyond the beach, Twin Lakes Park has plenty to offer visitors. You’ll find picnic areas, pavilions for gatherings, open green spaces, playgrounds for children, and a disc golf course that makes for a fun afternoon with family or friends. It’s the perfect spot to spend a few hours or even an entire day enjoying everything the park has to offer.
If I had one piece of advice before you visit, it would be this: bring bug spray! The flies were definitely out during our visit. It’s a small price to pay for spending the day surrounded by beautiful scenery and fresh Minnesota air.

If you’re looking for a relaxing lake that’s family-friendly, offers beautiful wildlife, and has plenty of recreational opportunities without feeling overcrowded, Twin Lakes Park in Nowthen is definitely worth adding to your Minnesota bucket list.
